Statement of Issue:
Each year, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) offers funding opportunities aimed at reducing transportation-generated pollution that can impact local waterways like Huntington Harbour, Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and the Pacific Ocean. This Council action requests authorization to apply for funds under the OCTA Measure M2 Environmental Cleanup Program, Tier 1 to retrofit the existing Hamilton stormwater pump station with a screening mechanism designed to capture and remove trash.
Financial Impact:
The City is requesting up to $600,000 from OCTA to fund the retrofit of the Hamilton stormwater pump station. The City will be responsible for 20% in local matching funds to be provided as a cash contribution. Funding for the project will be allocated from the Planned Local Drainage Fund (Fund 211) and should the City be awarded the grant from OCTA, staff will return to the City Council at a future meeting with a request for appropriation of funds.
