Analysis:
The Information Services Division of the Administrative Services Department, in consultation with the Public Works Department, identified the need to develop a fiber optic connection between City Hall and City facilities in the downtown area. With the installation of new fiber optic cable and conduit, Pier Plaza, the Police Department substation on Fifth Street, the Main Street Library branch, the Art Center, and Lake Street Fire Station will have a direct fiber optic connection to City Hall.
The project, which is included in the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Capital Improvement Program budget, will improve connectivity between City Hall and City facilities in the downtown area. The need for these improvements is identified in the Fiber and Communications Master Plan.
