Revisions to Detention Officer Job Class Specification

Statement of Issue:
The Detention Officer classification is assigned to the Police Department at the City and is represented by the Police Officers’ Association (POA). Modifications to the class specification are requested in accordance with Personnel Rule 12 regarding amendments to the City’s classification Plan.

Alternative Action(s):
Do not approve the updates to the job class specification and direct staff accordingly.
Analysis:
Modification to the Detention officer job class specification is recommended to remove language regarding the commercial driver license requirement. This request is intended to update the classification to reflect current and consistent job requirements. The current pay grade remains the same per the POA MOU.
Environmental Status:
This action is not subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to Sections 15060(c)(2) (the activity will not result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment) and 15060(c)(3) (the activity is not a project as defined in Section 15378) of the CEQA Guidelines, California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Chapter 3, because it has no potential for resulting in physical change to the environment, directly or indirectly.
