Fiber Optic Installation at the Central Library (CC-1722).

Statement of Issue:
Plans and specifications for the installation of fiber optic cable at the Central Library are in final preparation with advertising anticipated in April 2022. Staff is seeking support to begin the public bidding process.
Funding Source:
The engineers construction cost estimate for this project is $145,000, including construction contingency and construction administration. Funds for the project in the amount of $107,000 are budgeted in Public, Educational and Government Access (PEG) funds, Account Number 24385101.82800. The exact funding shortfall will be known with the opening of the sealed bids. Any additional funding required will be requested with the City Council construction contract award action.

Motion to approve the project for the installation of fiber optic cable to the Huntington Beach Central Library and find that the project is in general conformance with the approved FY 2022/2023 Capital Improvement Program.

Analysis:
The Central Library was identified in the Fiscal Year 2022/2023 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the installation of fiber optic cable. This cable will connect Huntington Beach City Hall with the Central Library, greatly improving the speed and reliability of communications between these two City facilities. The cable will be installed in new underground conduit from the existing City fiber optic cable running along Goldenwest Street to the south side of the library building.
