Statement of Issue:
Each year, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) provides funding opportunities to reduce transportation related pollution that can impact local waterways, including Huntington Harbour, the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and the Pacific Ocean. Staff is requesting City Council authorization to apply for funding under the OCTA Measure M2 Environmental Cleanup Program, Tier 1, to purchase and install one TrashTrap trash removal device and to increase the capacity of the storm drain on McFadden Avenue adjacent to Greer Park South.
Financial Impact:
The City is requesting up to $600,000 in grant funding from OCTA to support the purchase and installation of the TrashTrap unit and the upsizing of the McFadden Avenue storm drainpipe. The engineer's estimate for the overall project is $916,600. If the City is awarded the full $600,000, the remaining $316,600 will be funded through restricted reserves available in the Storm Water Quality Fund (Fund 892).
