Statement of Issue:
Each year, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) offers funding opportunities aimed at reducing transportation-generated pollution that can impact local waterways like Huntington Harbour, Bolsa Chica Wetlands and the Pacific Ocean. This Council action requests authorization to apply for funds under the OCTA Measure M2 Environmental Cleanup Program, Tier 1 to purchase and install a Trash Trap unit manufactured by StormTrap to retrofit the Hamilton storm water pump station.
Financial Impact:
The City is requesting up to $500,000 from OCTA to fund the purchase and installation of a Trash Trap unit at the Hamilton storm water pump station. The City will be responsible for 20% in local matching funds to be provided as a cash contribution. Should the City be awarded the grant from OCTA, staff will return to the City Council at a future meeting with a request for appropriation of matching funds from the Planned Local Drainage Fund (Fund 211).
