Statement of Issue:
In late 2021 and all of 2022, the Public Works Department engaged the consultant team of KOA Corporation to develop the City's first Local Roadway Safety Plan. Recently, the LRSP was updated based on requirements for upcoming Federal traffic safety grant programs. The LRSP is being presented to the CIAB/Public Works Commission to both share the information with the members and to help meet the Federal grant requirements.

Financial Impact:
Review of the Local Roadway Safety Plan does not result in required expenditures. However, the document does allow the City to prioritize different types of safety improvements and enables the City to be eligible for some competitive grants to study and implement traffic safety improvements.

CIAB members receive the document and forward any questions or comments to Public Works staff as appropriate in the future. This is an on-going plan that will be used to help develop capital improvement projects and project elements in the future.

Analysis:
In 2021, the City of Huntington Beach received a State grant to fund the development and preparation of a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) with an overall budget of $147,000. The purpose of the study was to perform a comprehensive review of roadway safety needs and prioritize roadway safety modification on our local streets. These efforts are in support of the statewide initiative, the "Statewide Highway Safety Plan", focusing on local-level concerns.
