Analysis:

The Harbor Commission is a seven (7) member advisory board to the City Council in matters pertaining to the Huntington Harbor, its beaches, facilities, and parks. The Commission advises on issues concerning waterway safety, general harbor infrastructure, water quality, usage and Municipal Code amendments.  The Harbor Commission also cooperates with other governmental agencies and civic groups in the advancement of the Huntington Harbor and recreational planning under the direction of the City Council.

At this time, the Harbor Commission has two (2) vacancies due to the resignation of Members who have relocated out of the area.  The City advertised the recruitment for new members through announcement on the City’s website, posting at City facilities and at the September 23, 2021 regular meeting.  Four (4) applications were received.

The City Council Liaisons to the Harbor Commission, Councilmembers Dan Kalmick and Erik Peterson, reviewed the four (4) applications and at this time, they recommend that Van Vu and Diane Wood be appointed to the Commission with their terms ending on December 31, 2024.  Their applications and the updated member roster are attached.
