The residents of Huntington Beach are represented by a seven member, part-time City Council. The City Council establishes policies and priorities for the provision of effective and efficient municipal services. The City Council is the city’s legislative authority and sets the policies under which the city operates. The City Council’s duties include establishing goals and policies, enacting legislation, adopting the city’s operating budget, and appropriating the funds necessary to provide service to the city’s residents, businesses, and visitors. Huntington Beach’s mayor is selected annually from among the City Council Members and is charged with running the City Council meetings and representing the city throughout the community and region. The City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.
