Statement of Issue:
Plans and specifications for the installation of fiber optic cable and conduit on Garfield Avenue from Newland Avenue to Huntington Street are in final preparation with advertising anticipated in September 2022. It is recommended that the project be found in compliance with the approved CIP and allot the public bidding process to begin.


Funding Source:
The engineer's cost estimate for this project is $362,900. Funds in the amount $1,000,000 are budgeted in the Infrastructure Fund, Account Number 31440101.82800 to fund construction of this project and another fiber optic project on Gothard. Approximately 50% of the budgeted construction funds are available for each project.

Motion to approve the project for Fiber Optic Cable Installation on Garfield Avenue from Newland Avenue to Huntington Street (CC-1682) and find that this project is in general conformance with the approved FY 2022/2023 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

Analysis:
The Public Works Department has identified a need to provide a fiber optic connection along Garfield Avenue to connect fiber corridors along Newland Avenue and Huntington Street. The fiber optic cable will provide system redundancy within the network to maintain communication in case of any break occurs within the Northern fiber ring routing.
