Alternative Action(s):
Recommend changes to the project.
Analysis:
This segment of the existing street lighting system is approximately 80 years old and the poles and conduits are severely rusted or corroded in many places. The system operates at 6,000 volts, whereas the current design practice is 120 or 240 volts. The combination of high voltage and the deterioration of the system increase the risk in performing maintenance and construction projects in the area. The street lighting circuit is also compromised as a result of age and degradation.
The project limits will be along Orange Avenue from Second Street to Eleventh Street. The project will include all new poles, luminaires, conductors and electrical service equipment.
The estimated cost for this project is $430,000, including the City purchase of poles and luminaires. Construction will be scheduled for the spring of 2022.
